MARGAO: An hour-long heavy downpour on Wednesday afternoon left several roads inundated with water in Margao.
The worst affected were the roads in the Aquem area which were left water logged by the heavy rains. Stray incidents of pedestrians landing in road side pits have been reported from the Aquem area.
In fact, most of the roads in the Aquem area were flooded around noon, raising questions over the pre-monsoon works undertaken by the Margao Municipal Council. The Aquem-Power house road was water logged, causing inconvenience to both motorists and pedestrians. A senior citizen Mahadev Chari wondered why the drains were not cleaned up before the monsoons.
Mahadev was critical of the authorities for not taking adequate precaution to take care of rain water since he had to wade through waters to enter an eatery.
The road stretch from Santosh garage to old college was also inundated with water. One could see two-wheeler riders walking with their motorcycles after they broke down in the flood waters.
