CURCHOREM: Residents from Curchorem-Sanvordem and neighbouring areas on Monday welcomed the Vasco-Vailankanni Express train when it made a halt at Curchorem Railway station.
South Goa MP Francisco Sardinha and Curchorem MLA Nilesh Cabral were also present to welcome the Vasco-Vailankanni Express train to mark the halt at Curchorem Railway station.
The express train arrived 70 minutes late at Curchorem station and halted for two minutes. Sardinha and Cabral garlanded the train engine to mark the halt and about 45 passengers boarded the train for their onward journey.
Speaking on the occasion, Sardinha said it was possible to persuade railway authorities to provide a halt at Curchorem due to co-operation of the people.
He assured to see that other demands are fulfilled like a direct train service to Tirupati and a regular daily train from Vasco to Miraj. He also directed the railway manager to provide parking facility for two-wheelers and four-wheelers at the railway station.
It may be recalled that South Western Railway officials had assured that the Vasco-Vailankanni train will make a halt at the Curchorem railway station within a month after residents of Curchorem-Sanvordem and neighbouring areas gathered to agitate on May 27 to press for a halt at Curchorem and within 14 days the Railway Board Delhi granted permission to halt the train.
