CANACONA: While one group claims a majority to unseat the Canacona Municipal Council (CMC) chairperson through a no-confidence motion, the other group is reportedly on the verge of embracing the State’s ruling party to thwart the move and get its own man in the chair.
With both groups confident of taking control of the CMC, all eyes are now on the special meeting convened by the Directorate of Municipal Administration on July 3, to take up the no-confidence motion against CMC chief Ajay Bhagat.
It may be recalled that Bhagat, in a surprise move, had withdrawn his resignation and this had compelled six councillors to move a no-confidence motion against him.
“We have received the DMA letter to take up the no-confidence motion against Bhagat on July 3 and Cuncolim Municipal Council Chief Officer Barad will be the presiding officer,” informed a CMC source.
While one group wants Madhav Dessai to head the council, the other group is rallying behind Simon Rebello to be the next CMC chief.
