PANJIM: Disgruntled Congressman Sameer Salgaocar who was denied Congress ticket to contest from Mandrem, on Monday, resigned from the primary membership of the party expressing displeasure at the party for ‘not supporting loyalists.’
Submitting his resignation shortly after 1 pm in the Congress office, Sameer Salgaocar pitched for loyalists to be honoured in the party.
“There is no support for loyalists in the Congress. It’s not just about me, but there are so many others… there is Victoria Fernandes, Naresh Sawal all these people have been sidelined by the Congress. I made it a point to submit my resignation to Arthur Sequeira. Arthur has been a General Secretary of the Congress for the last 25 years and till date he hasn’t been given a ticket. Since he’s my friend, I felt I should hand over my resignation to him,” Salgaocar told Herald.
Salgaocar was vying for the Mandrem ticket of the Congress but the ticket was given to Dayanand Sopte of Pernem who recently defected from BJP to join the Congress after he was allegedly promised a ticket and a quota of government jobs.
