Animals rescued in Margao raid

MARGAO: In a midnight raid, officials of the Animal Husbandry, police and NGO rescued sheep, goats, a cow, bull and calf from near a slaughter house at Khareband and seized 87 tins of animal fat.

MARGAO: In a midnight raid, officials of the Animal Husbandry, police and NGO rescued sheep, goats, a cow, bull and calf from near a slaughter house at Khareband and seized 87 tins of animal fat. 
Around 60 sheep, 37 goats, a cow and buffalo and a calf were rescued in the joint raid carried out by Animal Husbandry official, Dr Surendra Naik, Amrut Singh of the Animal Rescue Squad, Goa following a complaint by Gou Gayan Foundation, Delhi represented by G Yadav. In another raid at the Gandhi market, the team rescued two cows and a bull in the wee hours of Monday.
The Margao police have registered a case against unknown persons under the Prevention of Cow Slaughter Act; Prevention of Cruelty towards Animal Act; Illegal Slaughter Act. Dr Surendra told the media at the spot that the sheds which were used for the illegal slaughter of animals were in an unhygienic condition. “When our team descended at Khareband, we found the animals tied around the place,” he said.
