A day after Goa Police and Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) sought postponement of the hearing on Contempt Petition 12/2023 on Wednesday; bars and nightclubs are doing what they do best. Illegally play sound music and shatter the peace of locals in clouded the infirm and the aged.
Inhumanity dies a million deaths with each illegal decibel played by the cruel clubs.
Loud music has been heard since Friday evening, and it has got louder on Saturday, said Janie Crasto shouting out again: “It now is becoming clear that the police and
pollution control board sought postponement to August 28, just to permit these clubs to have a blast this weekend.”
Desmond Alvares, one of the petitioners shared a WhatsApp screen shot of a two messages sent to Anjuna Police Inspector Suraj Gauns – one of Friday and the other on Saturday.
Alvares’s first message read: “Yesterday evening I went to Anjuna and south Anjuna Praias Vaddo and all were blasting away I took videos. Mayan Beach Club and Purple Martini should be shut as per the GSPCB report given in HC even though I told them to reduce the volume they challenged me or anyone to stop it. I leave it up to you to seal these places.”
The second message on Saturday , also to the PI, read: “ Very, very loud trance parties on at Ozrant, Anjuna, Salud , Romeo Lane, Slique, Thalasa by the cliff, Noah, Nine Bar , Vamos, please take immediate action and inform the SP and DySP.”
“Sir, I’ll be real straight with you, if u allow anyone, I repeat anyone to have these loud music without affixing the sound monitoring stations , u will have to face the music.”
“Can you hear loud music being played?” queried Anjuna Police Station Police Inspector Suraj Gauns, when asked why loud music is still allowed to be played. “I will see that the music is stopped he countered,” on being notified the places.
When contacted late on Saturday evening PI Gauns surprisingly told O Heraldo: “We go for regular patrolling, we have never come any club playing loud music.”
“It looks like the police think we will keep quiet till the next High Court hearing on August 28. It is a pity that the police think they can make a joke of the High Court or any court for that matter and it is worse that their master who is our Chief Minister continues playing deaf,” fumes Wayne Pereira from Anjuna.
Despite the heavy showers, vehicles were seen moving towards Romeos Lane, Salud , Slique, Noah, Thalasa by the Cliff, Nine Bar and Vamos. Despite calls to 112, the following message was received: “ Dear caller, your request to 112 248118 is closed. Hope your issue is resolved.-112ERSSIN.”
But as the night grew older, the music grew louder and instead of falling asleep, those affected kept counting their fingers waiting for the day of the High Court hearing. “This cannot go on like this. They behave as though they are above the law,” said Faustino D’Souza.
