Aquem Baixo Gram Sabha held earlier this week has resolved to ask the government to de-notify the Regional Plan 202 and finalise a plan after taking into account ground realities.
Meanwhile post the Carmona gram sabha, it was resolved that the panchayat would forward the resolutions of the villagers to scrap the regional plan to the TCP. Carmona panchayat had earlier resubmitted its objections to the RP and had disclosed that the regional plan that had been kept open did not incorporate suggestions that the village committee had sent in the past.
At Aquem Baixo, the gram sabha members demanded de-notification of the RP and came out with a plan after consulting the villagers. Aquem Baixo villagers also demanded that decisions taken by the ward development committees should be incorporated in the RP 2021. Aquem Baixo Gram sabha members pointed out that in the present plan, wide roads have been shown that are not realistic and thus they raised objections to it. Furthermore, the villagers pointed out that the plan does not mention water bodies and other landmarks among several other discrepancies in it.
The residents under Cuncolim Municipal jurisdiction have also raised objections to the regional plan. It may be recalled that the Cuncolim municipality had held a special meeting last month where they had demanded for a 30 day extension and had opposed the widening of Major District Roads (MDR), NH 17 and also internal roads.
On Wednesday, there was a discussion at the municipality on how the regional plan proposes to increase the industrial estate on the northern side in the regional plan and due to which around 50 houses will face displacement. Cuncolim Municipal Chairperson Lavita Macarenhas said that the municipality is opposing the same and further pointed out that the existing industrial estate is not fully utilized and thus there is no need for any such expansion.
