The people brought to the notice of the panchayat that the road width which was increased to 10 meters will lead to the demolition of compound walls, houses and crosses.
“In the new RP2021, the government has not shown the land for garbage treatment plant, comunidade land, sewerage, open spaces, playgrounds, market complex, educational complex, recreational areas, health centres, hospitals, safety and security etc. The plan given by the authorities only shows settlements and the industrial zones and all other above public aspects are not given any importance to. Therefore people have decided not to accept,” said Peter Viegas, a villager.
Presently, Sao Jose De Areal has a burden of unplanned development, 300 industrial units, about 50 scrapyards and 50 crushers, two railway tracks Konkan Railway and South Central Railway and 2 pipelines of 1500 mm each of JICA.
Some people have raised the concern to mark their land for settlement. The sarpanch has advised the people to give their say in writing so that it can be pursued. The village has decided to approve the RP2021 which was prepared by the villagers and not the one prepared by the government. It was also pointed out that the villagers are original inhabitants for generations therefore they are the best people to plan their village and not the government authorities.
