MPDA issues show-cause notice over hill-cutting at Dabolim

VASCO: Following complaints of illegal hill-cutting behind Dabolim railway station,

The member secretary of the Mormugao Planning and Development Authority (MPDA) has issued a show-cause notice to the parties involved, including a Chicalim panch, and also directed them to stop work.
Herald investigations revealed that the panch of Dabolim ward under Chicalim panchayat, who is a builder by profession, had taken up construction of a 15-meter road to facilitate access to few plots behind Dabolim railway station. However, no permission had been obtained to cut the hill, which was being done by a contractor appointed by him.
“We have not issued permission to the parties concerned. After we received a complaint, our team inspected the site and found violations of Section 17A of the TCP Act. We have issued a show-cause notice, and even a stop work order,” said Vertika Nanda, MPDA member secretary.
The notices have been issued under Sections 52 and 17A of the TCP Act.
Additionally, the hill-cutting site is visible from the main road leading towards Bogmalo.
