MARGAO: Labour Minister Avertano Furtado, Salcete Deputy Collector Ajit Panchwadkar and other officials inspected the site for the proposed railway over bridge at a level-crossing in Davorlim. They have also convinced five farmers to give up their land for the widening and construction of the approach roads and the bridge. The work of the Davorlim bridge has been cleared and will begin soon.
The bridge on the level crossing at Davorlim was a need of the hour as commuters had to wait for over 45 minutes for the trains to pass, while the gate was closed every two minutes. The bridge has been planned to be 490 metres long and will be built at a cost of Rs 24 crore. The State government will invest Rs 12 crore and Konkan Railway Corporation will invest the rest.
“Commuters from Davorlim and Navelim will benefit from this bridge big time as it will save almost one hour and a lot of fuel,” said Paulo Colaco, a local.
