MARGAO: The Principal Sessions Judge in South Goa on Thursday dismissed, for want of jurisdiction, the application for anticipatory bail filed by the Leader of Opposition Chandrakant Babu Kavlekar. However, the court has extended the interim bail of Babu by additional eight days allowing him time to approach relevant court for anticipatory bail.
The Anti Corruption Branch (ACB) had objected to granting of anticipatory bail to Babu on ground that the South Goa Sessions Judge did not have the jurisdiction to entertain the application of Babu. Accepting the argument of ACB, the Principal Sessions Judge dismissed the application of Babu.
The Special Public Prosecutor G D Kirtany had argued that the offence was registered in North of Goa and by virtue of the same the case comes within the jurisdiction of the North Goa Sessions court.
Babu’s lawyers informed that they would now file an application for anticipatory bail before the North Goa District and Sessions Court.
Babu had filed an application for anticipatory bail after he was summoned by the ACB in the disproportionate assets case.
