Mauvin proposes more parking area for Dabolim airport

Says that the AAI facility will not solve parking problem; Listens to taxi operators’ grievances

VASCO: Panchayat Minister and Dabolim MLA Mauvin Godinho, on Thursday, said that considering growth in passenger traffic the multilevel car parking facility constructed by Airport Authority of India (AAI) will not be able to solve the entire parking problem at Dabolim airport. Mauvin said the State government has now proposed to utilise the area outside the Rajhans Theatre as well as the area alongside the road leading to Assoi-Dongri as additional parking facility.
“There are many issues that need to be sorted out at Dabolim airport. Recently when the new aerobridges were inaugurated, AAI had listed lot of issues at the airport. As the local MLA, I have taken up the issues. The first issue is the parking problems which exist for the last several years. There is absolutely confusion as far as parking is concerned and the multilevel parking which AAI had put in place is not yet operational and it is expected to be operational by July this year. However, this facility will not be able to solve the entire parking problem at Dabolim airport and hence we have proposed to utilise the area outside the Rajhans Theatre as well as the area alongside the road leading to Assoi-Dongri as additional parking facility,” he said after hearing the grievances of Airport taxi operators at his office in New Vaddem on Thursday.
Godinho further added that “Currently people have been using these open lands as parking facility and we want to develop it into a good modern parking. The only issue is to connect these parking facilities so we are intending to propose bridges over the railway track. We want to solve the entire parking problem in totality”.
