Bandi Sanjay Kumar’s son, Bandi Bhageerath, surrendered before police in connection with a Pocso case after the Cyberabad police issued a look-out circular to prevent him from leaving the country. The case was registered based on a complaint filed by the mother of a 17-year-old girl alleging sexual harassment.
The Union Minister said he handed over his son through lawyers out of respect for the law and judiciary. He maintained that his son repeatedly denied wrongdoing and claimed the family initially delayed surrender after legal advisers reportedly assured them that the case could be dismissed and bail would likely be granted.
Bandi Sanjay Kumar stated that despite legal optimism regarding bail, he decided not to delay the investigation any further and voluntarily presented his son before authorities. He added that everyone is equal before the law and said he has full faith in the judicial process.
Meanwhile, the Telangana High Court refused to grant interim protection from arrest to Bhageerath while hearing his anticipatory bail plea. The court declined to pass any interim order at this stage.
The complaint alleged that Bhageerath developed a relationship with the minor through social media platforms and allegedly promised marriage after she turned 18. Following the victim’s statement, police invoked stricter provisions under the Pocso Act.
Bhageerath also filed a counter-complaint alleging extortion and threats by the girl’s family, claiming they demanded money and pressured him into marriage.
