PONDA: Overgrown grass, a damaged walking trek and poor maintenance has given the Bahusaheb Bandodkar ground at Kashimutt Bandora a pathetic look.

The football ground constructed in 2015 is in a neglected state. The walking trek has been damaged at many places and overgrown grass has become a breeding ground for snakes and other reptiles.
Locals have now demanded that the PWD handover the football ground either to the Bandora Panchayat or the Sports Department.
Dinesh Gaunekar, a local stated that they have raised the issue on several occasions at the gram sabha and passed resolutions that the PWD hand over the ground to the Bandora Panchayat.
“Locals would play here much before the ground was constructed and handed over to the PWD. We were told that the PWD would maintain the ground. Today in order to play here, we require the permission of the PWD,” said Gaunekar.
He said there are two schools in the vicinity and both have no place for children to play. In case, the panchayat takes its possession, it would be beneficial for students as well as local youth.
Meanwhile when a PWD official was asked as to why the ground was not maintained, he stated that people don’t play football during the rains and added that a proposal for maintenance was sent to the higher-ups and hoped to get a sanction for it soon.
