In a major house breaking theft reported at Pedda-Benaulim, unknown miscreants looted the house of one Alvaro Gomes of gold ornaments and other valuables last night.
The Colva police put the estimated value of the stolen goods to Rs 1.95 lakhs, even as sources in the know claimed that the stolen items would be worth over Rs 4.5 lakh.
The loss to over Rs 4.5 lakh, the Colva police put the loss to around Rs two lakhs.
The miscreants effected entry into the house by removing the roof tiles. They lifted away the gold ornaments from the cupboard when the inmates were sleeping inside the house. The burglary took place between 12.30 pm and 6 am when the inmates were sleeping inside.
A police dog was pressed into service, but could not provide any clues to the police investigating team.
