PONDA: Ponda police on Tuesday arrested a woman from Bhoma for allegedly killing her husband after a heated argument at Marcel.
According to Ponda Dy SP Sunita Sawant, the accused Anita Bhomkar (22) had gone to search for her husband Nilesh Dobu Bhomkar (31) at Marcel as he did not return home the previous day.
She found him resting on a mound of sand at a construction site near the Marcel panchayat and got into a heated argument with him. Nilesh allegedly abused her in filthy language, due to which she lost her temper and struck him on the head with a stick she found at the site.
Meanwhile, her two-and-a-half year old son, who was with her, began crying of hunger. Unaware that her husband died of assault, she went to a hotel to get food for her son. While at the restaurant, she requested a waiter to check on her husband, stating that she had hit him with a stick.
Meanwhile, some locals who noticed her husband lying motionless called for an ambulance, which took him to Betki Health Centre, where doctors declared him brought dead. Ponda PI conducted a panchanama and seized the stick.
Dy SP Sawant added that the woman’s husband, a labourer, was an alcoholic and used to abuse and beat her regularly.
