Bicholim Mamlatdar directs WRD to inspect mining pits

BICHOLIM: Bicholim Mamlatdar Pravinjay Pandit on Thursday directed the officials to undertake several preventive measures so as to avoid any untoward incidents because of mining pits.

A special meeting in this regard was held in the Mamlatdar’s office wherein representatives of the mining companies and several government officials were present.

During the meeting, the Mamlatdar directed the Assistant Engineer of Department of Water Resources to conduct the inspection of all the mining pits in the Bicholim Taluka and oversee the arrangements of pumping of water from the pits. The Mamlatdar directed the mines managers of all the mining companies to render necessary assistance to the officials.

WRD Assistant Engineer K P Naik informed that all the mechanisms to pump-out water from mining pits are in place and he is monitoring the situation round the clock.

The Assistant Engineer said that they have already conducted the site inspection of all the mines in the Taluka and during the site inspection it was observed that there are no eminent dangers existing in the mining pits which may lead to untoward incident during the forthcoming monsoon season.

The Mamlatdar informed that there will be site inspection of Shirgao and Poira mines on May 10 and directed all the officials to be present. 

He also directed the Assistant Engineer of WRD to coordinate with his counterpart at Tillari Dam in order to put all mechanisms in place to prevent any flood like situation in Sal village during the monsoon.

The AE informed that he would submit a proposal to the Chief Engineer with respect to the Tillari Dam in order to prevent flood like situation in Sal and other adjacent villages in the Taluka.
