Bicholim mamlatdar reviews monsoon preparedness

BICHOLIM: The Bicholim Mamlatdar, Pravinjay Pandit, on Tuesday convened a meeting of sarpanchas of all the panchayats in the taluka to review the monsoon preparedness.
The sarpanchas were asked to form village level disaster management committees and submit the list to the mamlatdar to assist the Taluka Task Force to attend to any untoward incident during the monsoons. The sarpanchas also asked the mamlatdar to review the arrangements in mining area during the monsoon.
The mamlatdar informed the sarpanchas that as directed by him, the Water Resources Department has already made elaborate arrangements to pump excess water from mining pits to prevent water logging.
The sarpanchas urged the mamlatdar to ensure that mining companies are not negligent. The sarpanchas informed the mamlatdars that they have already undertaken pre-monsoon works and it is in progress.
Meanwhile, the mamlatdar and WRD officials conducted a joint inspection of the mining pits in the taluka to oversee the arrangements done to pump out excess water from the mining pits by the WRD.
Last week, the mamlatdar had instructed the WRD officials to make arrangements to pump out excess water from the mining pits.
“After the inspection, we found that the WRD has done all the arrangements and we are ready for the monsoon,” Pandit said.
