PONDA: With the Shiroda bypoll date yet to be announced, the BJP and MGP have already started their campaign in the constituency. But the Congress, which appears to struggle in finding the right candidate, has decided to leave it to the voters to find the candidate of their choice.
Subash Shirodkar who resigned from Congress to join the BJP has started campaigning in full swing as he is confident that the saffron party would field him for bypoll. He has held several meetings and has been meeting his voters and has expressed full confidence in getting their support.
On the other hand, MGP president Deepak Dhavalikar has gone a step further and since last month he has began campaigning in the constituency.
Though there is lot of pressure from the BJP asking him to withdraw from contesting the election, Dhavalikar has indicated that he would not withdraw even if BJP national leader asks him to do so.
Dhavalikar’s decision to contest the bypoll from Shiroda has created panic in the BJP Camp as it is learnt that the saffron party, which is determined to win the seat, is trying to persuade Dhavlikar but has so far not succeeded in doing so.
Meanwhile, Congress, which won the seat in last election, is still struggling to find a right candidate.
Congress President Girish Chodankar said Party has many aspirants and Shiroda voters would select its most deserved candidate to contest election.
He said to find a popular candidate, the party has decided to meet the voters and based on their opinion and choice, the party would declare its candidate for bypoll.
Meanwhile Borim panch Tukaram Borkar has decided to contest the bypoll and he too has commenced his campaign. He has so far held two meetings at Shiroda and Panchwadi for which he has received good response. Borkar said he is also vying for a Congress ticket to contest the bypoll.
