PANJIM: South Goa MP Narendra Sawaikar has written to Union Minister for Shipping Nitin Gadkari to allow Mercantile Marine Department (MMD), Vasco to hold all grades exams and certifications for Seafarers.
“I write this to you about declaring Mercantile Marine Department (MMD), having office at Hedland Sada, Vasco, as a full-fledged examination Centre for all grades of exams and certifications for National Engineering including rating certifications, revalidations and endorsements,” he said in the letter.
Further, he adds, “I would like to further suggest that MMD may also be empowered to carry out the powers for IV certification under the Government of Goa.”
Expressing the need for CDC, he further requested, “Since Continues Discharge Certificate (CDC) is a major concern for Seafarers I would stress that MMD office be further authorised and empowered to issue CDC to the Goan Seafarers who desire to avail the same”.
He said this would save lot of time and energy of the seafarers who otherwise have to travel Mumbai and Kochi to obtain CDC.
