MARGAO: The Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) Margao wing has alleged that the market inspector of Margao municipality, while clearing Diwali banners and posters, had removed all banners except those belonging to the Congress.
BJYM leaders Abhishek Kakodkar, Gaurav Narvenkar, Kaustubh Kanekar, Sachin Satardekar and others led by Sharmad Raiturkar met MMC Chief Officer Yeshwant Tawde on Monday to complain about the same.
“The banners, including Diwali banners, of NGOs, political and social workers were removed by the anti-encroachment team on Friday. Surprisingly, the team hasn’t cleared any of the banners of the Congress meeting put up at the traffic islands and transformers at Margao,” said Raiturkar.
When the group asked CO Tawde whether there was any direction to remove certain banners and keep others, he replied in the negative and asked them to give him a detailed complaint.
BJYM has also alleged that Market Inspector Anil Shirodkar has been taking ‘hafta’ from gaadas owners who have encroached on the footpaths of the market area.
