CANACONA: The body of a Karwar resident floating in the sea off the Agonda coast was on Tuesday brought ashore by Canacona police. The body was found afloat by locals around 8.15 am, police said.
After the body was fished out, police officials conducted panchanama and sent the highly decomposed body for preservation and post mortem.
Initially the body was unidentified. Later, on enquiries with the nearby police station, Canacona police learnt that a missing report of a local from Karwar was registered at Karwar town police station. Upon verification, it was found that the body was that of Anil Bandekar, 48, a resident of Telang Road in Karwar taluka.
When this correspondent asked for details in the incident, Karwar town police said that a missing report was filed by family member of Bandekar on Sunday and on the basis of the photos of the deceased, his family members identified him.
Karwar police said that the deceased was working as a pigmy agent and that they don’t suspect any foul play in the incident.
It is believed that Bandekar must have accidentally fallen into the waters of Kali River which flows at a little distance from his residence and drowned. And due to rough sea, the body would have drifted with the currents towards Agonda.
Sources at Canacona police said that there were no external injuries on the body. Post mortem was conducted on Thursday and the body was handed to his family police said.
