PANJIM: Eleven months after he died under mysterious circumstances, Fr Bismarque Dias was immortalised in print when the book ‘The Tallest Man’ was released on Sunday. The book was released by Goa Foundation’s Claude Alvares in the presence of the writer, Sudeep Dalvi, at Institute Menezes Braganza.
“2017 will be the last elections for Goa in my predictions and there is no point in staying here, in Goa, if you allow those people to destroy Goa. The people should actively fight and stop destruction in Goa,” Alvares said at the launch of the book. He said there is need for people to come together to fight against destruction and there is no point in them staying inside their homes.
“In areas such as Mopa, Vagator and Tiracol land is sold in the name of development for huge amounts and people are just displaced from their homes,” he added.
Speaking to Herald, Dalvi said Fr Bismarque was a gem of a person who always encouraged and protected him and helped him in the challenges ahead. “He is an icon and inspiration for many youth and allegations made against him are rubbish.”
He said there were many things spoken about Bismarque that were right and wrong and the truth has been mentioned in the book. “The allegations made by the people that he drank 20 bottles of liquor and then drowned are completely baseless,” Dalvi said.
Other activists stated that Bismarque had not drowned in the water but was killed and vowed to continue to fight for justice for Bismarque.
