PANJIM: A former sarpanch of Sancoale panchayat and three others have been booked on charges of bribery, for illegally issuing occupancy certificate for a construction project. This is the second corruption charge against Ramakant Borkar, as he was earlier arrested in another bribery case in July.
As per the fresh complaint filed by one Narayan Naik, the ex-sarpanch and three others demanded and accepted bribe of Rs two lakh from builder Everton Vales for allegedly hiding irregularities to issue occupancy certificate for commercial/residential project in survey no 177/1 in the panchayat jurisdiction. The entire deliberation allegedly happened in the presence of the then village panchayat secretary, whose name has not been disclosed by the anti-corruption branch in its press release.
On July 19, the ACB had caught Borkar accepting bribe of Rs 75,000 from one Munnalal Halwai to issue an occupancy certificate for a bungalow constructed by his father. Halwai had approached the ACB with a formal complaint that Borkar had been demanding Rs 1 lakh for completing the official work. A trap was laid by the ACB wherein the complainant was asked to negotiate the bribe amount to Rs 75,000. He was arrested while accepting the money.
