Calangute Tourist Assault: Two Arrested, More Detentions Likely as Police Probe Continues

Calangute Police have registered an FIR following an alleged assault on a tourist from Bengaluru at Calangute, in which multiple individuals were reportedly attacked with rods.

According to the complaint filed by Sayed Zakir, he and six of his friends were assaulted by staff at a local establishment identified as Planet Goa Restaurant and Shack, resulting in serious injuries. The incident is believed to have been triggered by a minor dispute that escalated into violence.

Police confirmed that two accused—Dinesh Kumar from Himachal Pradesh and Dhupendra Bahadur Yadav from Nepal—were arrested on the same day. The investigation is ongoing, with officials indicating that more arrests are likely as video footage from the scene is being examined.

The injured tourist has since been discharged from hospital after receiving treatment.

Authorities are continuing to gather evidence and record statements to establish the sequence of events and identify all those involved in the assault.
