MARGAO: The Camorlim gram sabha on Sunday resolved to undertake a survey of migrants living on rental basis in the village besides resolving to write to the Transport Department to register commercial vehicles only if the owner of the vehicle proves that he has place to park the vehicle besides asking for a speed breaker at Ambora.
Following the disclosure by one villager that he had seen the migrants living on rental basis in the village dumping their waste by the roadside, the gram sabha unanimously resolved that a survey be undertaken of all such dwellings.
The gram sabha also resolved to ask the landlords having migrants living on rental basis in their premises to submit a copy of the Tenant Verification Form or Stranger List that they submit to the police.
It was decided that the inhabitants of these dwelling be informed that they cannot dump garbage by the road side and also fine them so that the village remains clean.
Taking cognizance of the fact that a commercial vehicle was parked in an open space belonging to the panchayat for a long time, the villagers directed the panchayat to write to the Transport Department to register commercial vehicles in the name of the owner only if the owner proves that he has place to park the vehicle.
No vehicle should be registered in the name of the owner if the owner fails to prove that he has land to park the vehicle said the villagers pointing out that otherwise such vehicles are parked in open spaces or even along the road causing nuisance to the general public.
Taking cognizance of the accidents occurring at Ambora due to the sharp turn on the road there, the gram sabha demanded that a speed breaker be erected there to reduce the accidents.
The villagers also demanded that the panchayat take some action against the stray cattle in the village while expressing its concern over the functioning of the Biodiversity Committee. Alarico Antao chairman of the Biodiversity Committee admitted that his ill health affected the work and promised to expedite the preparation of the People’s Biodiversity Report.
