PANJIM: The State cabinet decided to permit Golden Globe Hotels Pvt Ltd to operate their leased vessel MV San Domino in River Mandovi for a period of 6 months from April 1, 2017 to September 9, 2017 on par with five other offshore casinos licences as per the order of the High Court (dated 09/01/2017 read with 08/03/2017) in a non-discriminatory manner.
The approval is, however, subject to completion/compliance of all financial, statutory etc requirements/ permissions. Former controversial Haryana minister Gopal Kanda, has a business interest in this casino
While the cabinet approved this, it wasn’t before the new ministers made strong points opposing the move. “It is one thing to decide on existing casinos and another to bring in new casinos and grant licence,” a minister said, refusing to be named.
The minister said that while the cabinet is backing the Chief Minister to take a decision on casinos, it also suggested against granting permission to new casinos. “The Chief Minister shares our sentiments and we are hopeful a right decision would be made,” he stated.
