PANJIM: All casinos, on shore and off shore, have been directed to shut operations for 24 hours on October 2, on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
An order issued by Under Secretary (Home) Rohan Kaskar says that every year, the State observes dry day on October 2 to pay homage and respect to the Father of the Nation. “In this regard, all the casino licensees shall stop the operation of the casinos in the State of Goa on 2nd October, 2016 [from 12.00 midnight to 12.00 midnight (24 hours)] as respect to Mahatma Gandhi,” the order says.
Stating that the order is being issued in public interest, Kaskar said directions should be adhered to scrupulously.
The BJP-led government in 2014 had decided to keep casinos closed for 24 hours on October 2, which is observed as dry day.
