PANJIM: The Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) has ordered the sealing of a shop for operating an illegal trade without obtaining a trade licence.
The shop is located in the Gera Imperium Green, Neugi Nagar, Mala-Panjim. A complaint against the shop was filed on February 8, 2023.
Following the complaint, Corporation of the City of Panaji officials conducted an inspection of the site and subsequently issued a notice to the shop owner under the provisions of the Corporation of the City of Panaji Act, 2002, and the bye-laws framed thereunder.
The Corporation of the City of Panaji had earlier directed the shop owner to regularise the trade/advertisement within seven days of the notice or show cause as to why action should not be taken against him under the relevant provisions of law, which included the closure of business activity, confiscation of goods, and defacement of the advertisement.
However, the respondent did not respond to the notice issued by the Corporation of the City of Panaji Commissioner, who then called both parties for a personal hearing.
During the hearing, the respondent claimed that he had a leave and licence agreement to use the premises and expressed his intention to apply for a trade licence.
After providing an opportunity for the respondent to appear, he failed to attend the hearing and the Commissioner has since issued an order on the matter.
