PANJIM: The Corporation of the City of Panaji is all set to try and balance a Rs 13 odd crore deficit budget when it meets on Thursday.
Sources say that the Rs 13 crore deficit is pending for as long as seven years and also includes contractors’ bills. The projected expenditure is said to come to around Rs 30 crore. However the city has some major work at hand such as clearing the St Inez creek, sorting parking and traffic congestion problems. The market complex too needs a lot of attention and maintenance work as well as sorting out of issues.
Meanwhile, the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) is trying to enforce the plastic ban in the city as part of a state-wide crackdown on plastic bags.
The Goa State Pollution Control Board had issued a notice announcing the enforcement of the Plastic Waste (management and handling) Rules 2011, under which traders and consumers found selling and using unlabelled plastic carry-bags below 40 microns will face stiff penalties, including imprisonment up to one month or fine up to Rs 5,000 or both.
The notice mandates that each plastic bag has to have the name and registration number of the manufacturer and thickness of the bag printed on it.
