PANJIM: Union government’s Hospital Services Consultancy Corporation (HSCC) would be nominated to set up the entire health related infrastructure in Goa, Health Minister Vishwajit Rane announced on Friday.
Speaking to media persons after inspecting the ongoing work of super-specialty block of Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC), Rane said that the Central corporation, which has a vast experience in health care sector, would also take up work of upgradation of Candolim Health Centre and the proposed Cancer Block at GMC.
He said that HSCC, which is constructing the 500-bed super-specialty block, would also deal with procuring the required medical equipment for the hospital.
“As per directions of Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, we have decided to fast track the project, the foundation stone for which was laid down in February this year. It is our dream project and we have to ensure that it comes up as fast as possible,” Rane said.
He further informed that the construction work of the cancer block would be taken up by HSCC at the earliest and that the government is also planning to construct a mother and child care block near GMC.
Meanwhile, Rane said that the decision to introduce bank guarantee ranging from Rs 5-10 lakh for the students undergoing undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) courses, respectively at the Goa Dental College from current financial year has been kept in abeyance.
“I have moved the file to keep the proposal in abeyance following requests from the students. However, the students will have to compulsorily fulfill the bond period,” Rane stated.
