Chaitanya emerges champion in 6th Marvel International Below 1800 FIDE Rated Chess

PANJIM: Chaitanya Gaonkar of Goa emerged champions in the 6th Marvel International Below 1800 FIDE Rated Chess Tournament held at Puchalapalli Leela Sundaraiah Function Hall, Pragathinagar, Hyderabad-Telangana, recently.

Chaitanya was the 25th seed in this tournament and is a Class IX student of Shri Shanta durga High School, Bicholim. Players (371 out of which 221 were rated) who participated were from India, Malaysia, Singapore, South Africa, Kenya, USA participated. Chaitanya (1713) managed to win all his matches except the final match with the 2nd seed Yash Kapdi of Maharastra which was drawn.

He beat Satyanarayn P of Telangana (1724) in the 5th round, Mokshith P (1761) of Telangana in the 6th round, 3rd seed Rohit N (1720) of Telangana in the 7th round, Ritesh Maddukari (1720) of Telangana in the 8th round. He managed to gain 144 Elo points in the tournament.

The Goa Chess Association President Mahesh Candolkar, Secretary Ashesh Keni, Bicholim Taluka Chess Association President Rajan Kadkade and Secretary Satyawan Harmalkar and other officials have congratulated him on his achievement.
