MARGAO: Nationalist Congress Party MLA Churchill Alemao has announced that asphalting of the road in Demo Naik ward would commence on Wednesday and that works worth around Rs 100 crore have been sanctioned in the Benaulim constituency under various heads.
“While works worth Rs 20 crore will be undertaken by the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation, the Public Works Department will take up works amounting to Rs 25 crore and the Tourism Department has sanctioned works worth around Rs 13.4 crore,” he said.
He explained that works worth Rs 65 crore have been sanctioned through the GSIDC which however would take up works estimated to cost Rs 20 crore in the first phase and the balance works will be done in the next phase.
Churchill said that the person who had encroached on PWD land along the road from Demo Naik to the church has since given up the case and hence the work would commence on Wednesday.
He maintained that there was no need for the “misguided” villagers to gherao the PWD engineer over this matter.
“The GSIDC will also reconstruct the bandh leading from the main road to the Orlim Church and beautify it for which Rs 14 crore has been sanctioned,” he said and added that this project will commence shortly.
