MARGAO: Nationalist Congress Party MLA Churchill Alemao condoled the death of George Fernandes who, he said, was a friend and mentor to him always giving him good advice right from the time he met the national leader.
Recalling that Fernandes came to Goa to lay the foundation stone for the overhead bridge over the Konkan Railway tracks at Margao, he said, George had given many other gifts to Goa. “It was due to him that the Tillari project was cleared, the seats at Goa Medical College could be increased and the boat service from Goa to Mumbai was restarted,” Churchill recalled.
As the Union Railway Minister Fernandes was also responsible for the Konkan Railway Corporation becoming a reality, Churchill said and prayed that his family takes courage to bear the great loss.
