VASCO: A two way road which gets divided just before Chicalim Village Panchayat ground has become a death trap for the commuters. Motorists, four wheelers, including trucks stick to wrong practice of entering into a small stretch of another road, which is specifically meant for the commuters going towards Vasco. This may likely cause accidents and fatalities.
It has been a usual practice of most of the commuters to move their vehicles through the no entry road who are willing to take up internal road which joins Dabolim National Highway near Vishal Megamart.
There have been many accidents in past at the road point near Chicalim Village Panchayat, where vehicles tend to enter into wrong way. Repeated efforts to contact Chicalim sarpanch failed, which were done to know about the action taken by the panchayat to stop such practice.
When contacted, Vasco Traffic PI Suraj Samant, to know about the working of the traffic, informed that the stretch near Chicalim Village Panchayat has two roads divided with a space in between. On both roads, traffic moves, one  meant for the vehicles to pass out of Chicalim and another  specifically for outside vehicles to pass through Chicalim, which leads to Chicalim Junction and Vasco. And on this road, most of the vehicles tend to enter which is wrong way and an equally accident prone.
He further informed that there was no sign board of “Keep Left” installed at the intersecting point where the road gets divided into two. “People who take this road don’t have sufficient space to take U-Turn. Concreting has been done to divide the road but the space available to make U-Turn has not been utilised,” he added.
When asked why traffic police are not taking action on the motorists, Samant reiterated that whenever traffic police try to impose fine on the violators, they argue of no space for U-Turn and absence of sign board.
“I have sent proposal to make road improvement to PWD. But till date no action seems to initiate at the spot,” he informed.
