Our beautiful state of Goa is drowning in garbage with the government doing precious little about it. From the village, to the beach roads, to the city all you see is garbage and stray dogs. The state machinery for clearance of trash is completely broken down and the problem is compounded by tourists who consider Goa as their playground (yahan sub chalta hai) and while departing leave behind mountains of trash, some even throwing it out of their vehicle windows as they hotfoot it out of the state.
There are multiple agencies for garbage disposal but when accountability is sought, they pass the buck. The mounds of wet trash everywhere attracts rodents, cattle and disease carrying pathogens, further the animals foraging for food spread the waste around. Why doesn’t the government appoint an efficient minister for garbage exclusively to look into these matters.
Global warming indicates that the Arabian sea will swamp coastal areas, but I believe the sea of filth will drown us sooner.
