CURCHOREM: The residents of Curchorem-Sanvordem and surrounding areas are irked over the callous attitude of postal authorities over the functioning of Curchorem post office for the last few years.
People from the area are put to great hardship and inconvenience for last several days due to unavailability of internet connection as post office cannot accept cash to deposit in various postal schemes such as SCS, RD, KVP, MIS, NSC, postal insurance and in saving bank accounts.
And on top, RD account holders have to pay extra as fine if they failed to pay their monthly installment by 15 of every month. The other services of the postal like speed post, registration, parcel and payment of telephone bills also affected due to non-functioning of internet.
“We are helpless and cannot do anything. We informed our head office at Mapusa but till now issue has not been solved,” said post master, who will be retiring end of this month.
When asked about the staff shortage she said that actually they are entitled four plus one administrative staff including post master but currently post office is functioning with only two clerks along with her.
According to locals, earlier there were many staff and the service was quick, but now only three staff including post master handling the day to day affairs. Every day people are seen standing in a long queue as one clerk is handling SCS, RD, KVP, MIS, NSC and saving bank accounts.
