PONDA: The Ponda market vendors have been complaining regarding the leaking market shed due to which they are facing hardship in conducting their normal business.
The vendors have demanded with the Ponda Municipal Council (PMC) to carry out maintenance work of the market with proper drainage system for rain water flowing from the roof.
Ponda Budhwar Peth Market President Shankar Naik said that as the PMC collects sopo, there is a need to provide proper facilities to vendors in the market with yearly maintenance works.
He said, “The cement roof of the market shed is damaged at many places causing leakages. The vendors have placed plastic covers to protect from the leakages as well as to drain roof water. Monkeys have damaged the roof sheets which the vendors demand to replace to protect from monsoon.”
“There is no proper drainage system for the rain water falling from the roof which causes nuisance to us and also destroys vegetables and other perishable items. Similarly, the stray cattle are causing nuisance in the market by eating the vegetables,” he added.
The vendors also complained that due to mix arrangement of vendors they don’t get customers. The customers buy goods from the roadside vendors without entering the market.
Naik said, “The PMC officials should inspect pathetic condition of the market and discuss with vendors to bring changes which will benefit the municipality, vendors as well as customers.”
