Recently the acting Sarpanch of Queula along with the panchayat members caught red handed a rickshaw driver and two workers while dumping garbage along the roadside at Baithekhol in Ponda. The driver was fined Rs 5000 for the offence.
Queula villagers are accustomed to dumping garbage along the roadsides at different spots. One strategic spot is near the ground at Paunwada in the vicinity of Two Pillars. Local residents dump their household garbage at this spot on regular basis and the same remains uncleared. People leaving for work early morning often indulge in such acts. The adjacent picture is a perfect proof in this regard. Another such area at this jurisdiction is in the vicinity of Shree Shantadurga temple (in Queula).
The concrete dustbin installed here is being found overflowing on most occasions. Hence residents prefer dumping garbage along the roadside. I wonder whether the Queula Panchayat has been exercising a vigil on persons dumping garbage at above two spots. Many tourist vehicles proceed along the Shantadurga temple towards Ramnathi and neighbouring religious spots.
Scenes of scattered garbage ultimately portray a negative image in the minds of visitors. It is absolutely necessary that people found dumping garbage here and there are fined heavily so that such undesirable practices end on a permanent basis. This in turn would go a long way in maintaining hygienic conditions in the village.
Indeed, the Sarpanch intends to keep the village green and beautiful. Hence defaulters in this regard must be dealt with an iron hand. Since cleanliness is next to godliness, let us hope that quick and favourable action would follow in this important matter in public interest.
