MARGAO: A group of citizens is urging that a special tribute be paid to renowned cinematographers K Vaikunth and K Atish Kuncolienkar during the forthcoming International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa, recognising their substantial contributions to the film industry.
Prabhav Naik, a prominent advocate for the tribute, highlighted the achievements of the father-son duo from the Kuncolienkar family in Margao. He asserted that both artistes have instilled immense pride in Goa through their cinematic work, making it fitting for their contributions to be acknowledged at such a prestigious event as IFFI.
Naik specifically praised K. Vaikunth, born in Margao on August 25, 1925, for his exceptional cinematography, particularly in the classic Bollywood film Seeta aur Geeta, for which he received a Filmfare Award. He also commended Vaikunth’s talents as a portrait artist and mentor, having guided numerous filmmakers throughout his illustrious career.
Additionally, Naik spoke of K. Atish Kuncolienkar’s significant impact on cinematography, noting his popularity from the dance show ‘Boogie Woogie’ and his work on the singing contest ‘Sa Re Ga Ma Pa’. Naik expressed hope that both father and son would receive the recognition they deserve at IFFI, as their work has not only shaped Indian television and cinema but also brought glory to Goa.
