Civic polls:593 vie for honours

A total of 593 candidates remained in fray for municipal elections after the process of scrutiny of nomination papers ended today.
176 candidates withdrew their nominations on the last day of filing papers today even as the election process for the eleven municipal councils scheduled go in for elections on October 31 is underway.
After scrutiny, two candidates from Mormugao Municipal Council and Valpoi Municipal Council were declared elected unopposed.
Eleven municipal councils that will go in for elections on October 31 include Mapusa, Margao, Mormugao, Curchorem – Cacora, Pernem, Canacona, Sanguem, Valpoi, Quepem, Bicholim and Cuncolim.
