OLD GOA: Clogged drains have become a common feature at Indira Nagar in Chimbel, posing a threat of vector-borne diseases in the area due to water stagnation, which was noticed during the anti-larval spraying drive undertaken by the Chimbel Sub Health Centre.
Plastic bottles, plastic bags, footwear and other waste were seen dumped into the drains, thereby resulting in water stagnation, which has become a perfect breeding ground for mosquitoes.
When the Chimbel SHC team inquired with the residents over the non-cleaning of the drainages, they blamed the panchayat for not undertaking cleaning of drainages in the area.
The team also noticed the release of sewage water directly into the drains by all the households which has further compounded the problem of water stagnation.
Chimbel SHC staff Surekha Gaude, Jhanavi Mahale and Anil and Chimbel Village Health Nutrition and Sanitation Committee members Bharti Fernandes and Manuel participated in the drive.
The SHC authorities said anit-larval spraying will continue in other wards shortly.
