PANJIM: A car caught fire on Saturday morning near a government primary school at Taleigao, reportedly due to short circuit, Goa fire service officials said.
According to the officials, they received a call at around 9.23 am informing that a car went up in flames near the school. One fire tender was used to tackle the fire which was doused soon.
The Maruti Omni car was taken out for a test drive by a car company’s officials when they noticed smoke coming out of the bonnet. It was reportedly given to the car service centre for some maintenance work,” the fire personnel said.
“The driver stopped the car and came out. He and another person accompanying him rushed to get a fire extinguisher from their showroom. But by then the car was in flames and the locals who saw this called up the fire department,” said an official.
Alertness of locals and timely intervention of the fire officials averted a major mishap.
The department officials said they have written to the authority concerned to identify the car owner. A report is being prepared on the incident.
