CAVELOSSIM: In its recently passed Rs 1.19 crore surplus Budget 2021-22, the Cavelossim Village Panchayat has reduced the tax imposed on guest houses by 50 per cent, besides also decreasing the garbage tax.
Cavelossim Sarpanch Dionizio ‘Denis’ Dias informed Herald that “during the gram sabha held on Sunday, the Budget 2021-22 was discussed wherein the Panchayat has reduced the guest house tax by 50 per cent from Rs 1,000 to Rs 500. The garbage tax for households was also reduced from Rs 365 to Rs 100. The Budget 2021-22 with a total receipts of Rs 2,75,54,500 as against total expenditure of Rs 1,56,18,000 with a surplus of Rs 1,19,36,500 was approved.”

“A Gram Sabha member also questioned the sarpanch regarding the mass burning of mixed waste near the Holy Cross school to which the sarpanch informed that a fine of Rs 25,000 had been imposed on the land owner that had not been paid till date. The Gram Sabha member unanimously resolved that the Village Panchayat file criminal charges against the land owner. Regarding footpaths, changing rooms, toilets and TIC (Tourism Information Centre) on the beach, the sarpanch informed that footpath construction will commence shortly. The beach toilets and changing rooms were proposed in 2017 and will be commissioned soon. Some taxi drivers feared that the TIC will be used by Goa Miles and requested the sarpanch to either shut the TIC or use the structure for other purposes as suggested by panchayat to be used for disaster management office,” said Denis.
“During the gram sabha on Sunday, objections were also raised against floating jetties on the beach and Blue Flag certification in the village jurisdiction. Besides, objecting to permissions granted by GCZMA to events held in intertidal zones and NOCs for commercial activities on sand dunes. It was further suggested that the CZMP show the beach access near hotels and approved hotel plans; show settlement structures existing in CRZ areas; show all PWD and panchayat roads in CRZ areas; construct a retaining wall along the river and thereby restrict the hazard line up to the retaining wall along the embarkment; denotify the Betul Port and remove Port limits in Cavelossim jurisdiction, River Sal and on the Cavelossim beach,” said Denis.
