PONDA: Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar has expressed confidence that the mining operations would resume in the State by August.
“The case will be heard in the Supreme Court in July. As we have a strong base in this case, I’m hopeful that mining operations will resume in the State by August,” said Parrikar, after inaugurating Shree Sateri Pissani Education Society’s Shri Gopal Gaonkar Memorial, Goa Multi-faculty College, at Dayanand Nagar, Dharbandora.
Complimenting Sanvordem MLA Ganesh Gaonkar for taking initiative to start the first college in Dharbandora taluka, Parrikar said, “There was a need to have a college in Dharbandora taluka and priority was given to expedite approvals and whatever was needed to start this college,” added Parrikar.
Shree Sateri Pissan Education Society Chairman Ganesh Gaonkar said the college will temporarily operate from the renovated government high school complex and will have two courses, BCom and BBA.
“There was misunderstanding among people that this college will only allow students from the ST community, but our college is open to all students,” said Gaonkar.
According to information, the college is affiliated to Goa University.
“We are offering the Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) course, which will be government aided,” informed senior Vice Chairman of Shree Sateri Pissan Education Society Dr Manoj Kamat.
“The fees will be about Rs 5,400, while in other private colleges, it is self-financing and costs about Rs 60,000. We also plan to introduce courses that are not available in the State,” added Dr Kamat.
Sports Minister Ramesh Tawadkar, Minister for Cooperation Deepak Dhavlikar, Industries Minister Mahadev Naik, MLAs Dr Pramod Sawant, Vishnu Wagh, Nilesh Cabral and Subhash Phaldessai and Goa University Registrar V Kamat, educationists and local residents were present.
