MARGAO: Speaking his government’s mind on the illegal structures at Talsanzor, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on Friday assured residents of Talsanzor that his government will not throw any citizen on the streets.
He gave this assurance when beleaguered women from the Talsanzor hillock called on him at Don Bosco, Fatorda, with a plea to save their structures from demolition. “My government has no intention to throw anyone on the streets, especially those who have been staying at one place for 20 years. We will work out an arrangement. My government will work out the legal issues involved,” Parrikar said.
Without disclosing his plan of action to save the structures from the axe, Parrikar promised that his government would work out the details how to go about solving the issue.
The Chief Minister’s stand on Talsanzor’s illegal structures assumes significance and comes against the backdrop of the government’s decision granting approval to the resolution adopted by Comunidade of Margao, rejecting the plea of the residents for regularisation of their illegal structures. In fact, District Collector, N D Agrawal, had last week cleared the decks for the demolition of Talsanzor’s illegal structures based on government’s acceptance of Margao Communidade’s resolution rejecting pleas for regularisation.
Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardessai had taken up cudgels for the beleaguered residents of Talsanzor with the government on grounds that the inhabitants are all Goans demanding protection of their interests.
