VASCO: Assuring the barge owners and Vasco fishermen to resolve their problems, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar said he would try to increase the fishing ban period to avoid harvesting of premature fish after taking all scientific aspects into consideration.
Parrikar on Friday addressed a series of corner meetings in Mormugao taluka to garner support for BJP South Goa candidate Narendra Savaikar.
Addressing meetings at Vasco, Baina, New Vaddem and Bogda-Mormugao, Parrikar urged the people to vote for Savaikar to strengthen BJP to form the next government at the Centre.
While highlighting the achievements of his government in the State, Parrikar stated that he was instrumental in retaining the Dabolim airport and construction of the four-lane highway.
“My government in the State is responsible for implementing the Ladli Laxmi scheme and other schemes for widows, senior citizens and other needy persons,” he said.
Parrikar assured the barge owners and Vasco fishermen to solve their problems and urged them to elect Savaikar. He told the fishermen and trawler owners that he would try to increase the fishing ban period to avoid harvesting of premature fish after taking all scientific aspects into consideration.
“I will direct the Fisheries department to monitor the fishing area to keep a check on fishing trawlers from other states fishing in Goan waters,” he said.
Parrikar also assured to legalise all the illegal houses constructed on government land. However, he warned that he will not be in a position to help those who encroached on the area meant for road widening and other development.
While commenting on BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, Parrikar said Goa is very close to Modi’s heart and if BJP comes to power at the Centre, Modi as a prime minister will help to develop Goa.
“Though Goa has only two members in the Lok Sabha, I will urge you to vote for Savaikar in South Goa and North Goa Lok Sabha candidate Shripad Naik to strengthen the BJP at the Centre. I am very close to Modi, with whose help as prime minister I will bring in better development for Goa,” he added.
