PANJIM: Porvorim legislator Rohan Khaunte has joined the opposition leaders’ remarks about the Goa government’s failure to protect Mhadei water, as the Central government on Thursday notified the award pronounced by the Mhadei Water Disputes Tribunal. At a press conference in the city on Friday, Khaunte demanded Chief Minister Pramod Sawant’s resignation alleging he sold his mother (Mhadei River).

“Karnataka has played the trick by convincing (the authorities) that the diversion is meant for drinking water project, which is how they bypassed the environment clearance. There is a huge disconnect between the present CM and the leadership in the Centre,” Khaunte said.
“The CM has till date failed to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the issue even as Karnataka managed to win the case in their favour, he further alleged. “To save his chair, the CM has sold his mother (Mhadei). He has no authority to remain on the chair when he cannot protect his mother. He should step down as Goa’s CM,” the Independent MLA demanded.
Khaunte also stated that AYUSH Minister and MP Shripad Naik “should have done what Pralhad Joshi is doing for Karnataka.”
The former minister also slammed the CM for rejecting United Opposition’s demand for a white paper on Mhadei. He went on to state that soon after the notification by the Centre; Karnataka CM has sought from the Union government funds to construct dams.
“Every tactful handling of this subject by Karnataka shows how incapable our CM is. This has been a total failure of the government,” he commented while recalling the then CM (late) Manohar Parrikar’s passion for Mhadei. He said that Mhadei should be main issue for the upcoming Zilla Panchayat election.
