MARGAO, JULY 4
There’s good news in store for people affected by the expansion of the NH-17.
If Power Minister Alexio Sequeira is to be believed, Chief Minister Digambar Kamat on Sunday issued directions to the Revenue officials to immediately keep on hold land acquisition process for the expansion of the national highway.
Sequeira told Herald that he took up with the chief minister at Nuvem on Sunday evening the contentious issue of expansion of the NH-17 and demanded that the government should first provide all information and details concerning the expansion project.
The Loutolim MLA said that he made a strong case with the Chief Minister to keep the land acquisition process in abeyance till all doubts of the public are first cleared by the government.
“The Chief Minister immediately called the Revenue officials and issued directions that the entire process be kept on hold”, Sequeira said.
The Power Minister, however, said that nothing stops the people from filing their objections to the land acquisition process.
Incidentally, Sequeira, who also holds the Environment portfolio, had postponed hearings by the Goa Pollution Control Board on the highway expansion project.
