VASCO: The Indian Coast Guard Goa Region on Sunday evacuated a staff member of Vengurla Rock Light House (Island) who suffered a cardiac arrest during the wee hours on Sunday.
As per information from the ICG Goa Region, they received a message from directorate general of light house and light ships (DGLL), stating that one of their employee Siraj Khan (56) stationed at Vengurla Rock Light House had a severe chest pain since he was a cardiac patient.
The DGLL staff made attempts best to launch boat from Vengurla beach to Rock Light House, but they could not make it due to the rough weather condition.
The operating officer of ICG Goa Headquarter Deputy Commandant Ajay Kumar Ashik and the operations team worked out a plan and coordinated medical requirement on shore.
Despite severe weather condition and poor visibility due to clouds, ICG Goa launched a helicopter during the early morning on Sunday.
The helicopter with medical team reached the island in 25 minutes. The ICG Goa team faced a tough time while landing the helicopter since the area at the Rock Light House was rocky and was unsafe for landing.
However, in a daring operation, the pilot in command deputy commandant Vijay Tanta undertook rough and restricted area landing on a small open space.
The patient was put on a stretcher and was taken onboard helicopter. The patient was later flown to a pre-planned spot at Vengurla beach on main land. The patient was then handed over to the medical team which was accompanying an ambulance van. The patient was found to be stable. He was later shifted to a local hospital in Vengurla.
